Which legend will join Rugby League Week's Immortals in 2012?
Certain to be the most anticipated event in rugby league in a decade, the time honoured Rugby League Week Immortals will welcome an eighth member in 2012.
The Immortals have stood above all others in the game since 1981, when Rugby League Week inducted Clive Churchill, Reg Gasnier, John Raper and Bob Fulton as the original Immortals.
“The King” Wally Lewis and Graeme “Changa” Langlands were inducted in 1999 and the late, great Arthur Beetson became the seventh member of the game’s most exclusive club in 2003.
Selected by an illustrious panel of 13 expert judges, the eighth Immortal will be crowned at the annual Men of League dinner in Sydney during NRL Grand Final week 2012. The announcement will be telecast on the Nine Network.
A who’s who of rugby league has been assembled for the Immortals judging panel, including: seven-time premiership coach Wayne Bennett; Channel Nine commentary guru Ray Warren; the voice of league Ray Hadley; veteran News Ltd journalist Phil Rothfield; Sydney Morning Herald expert Roy Masters; ARL Commission chairman John Grant; former Rugby League Week editors Ian Heads, Norman Tasker, Tony Durkin, Geoff Prenter and Martin Lenehan; league historian David Middleton, and; current Rugby League Week editor Mitchell Dale.
“The Immortals stands above all other honours in our great game and Rugby League Week is proud and excited to be adding another champion to the line-up,” said editor-in-chief Martin Lenehan.
“We have put together a panel of judges without peer in the game and the man they choose to join this exclusive club will stand tall alongside the seven current Immortals in the game’s greatest club.”
